What is Circulation?

Circulation is the continuous process of blood  and lymph flow from the heart through a close system of vessels.

What are the types of circulation??

There are three types of  blood circulation. They are given bellow-1.Systemic circulation, 2.Pulmonary circulation, 3. Portal circulation.

Systemic Circulation

Passage of blood from left ventricle to the tissue and from the tissue to right atriumis called aystemic circulation.

[ Lt. Ventricle ~Aorta~Artery~Arteriol~Capillary~Venule~Vein~Rt.Atrium.]

Pulmonary Circulation

Passage of blood from right ventricle to the lungs and fromthe lungs to left atrium is called pulmonary circulation.

[ Rt.Ventricle~Pulmonary artery~lungs~Pulmonary vein~Lt. atrium. ]

Portal Circulation

Blood from heart generally passes through one set of capilaries before draining into the heart. But in certain organ where the blood passes through two seta of capillaries before draining into the heart. This system is known as portal system.

What is the function of Circulation??

  1. Circulation circulates blood to the whole body.
  2. It transport Oā§¨ from lungs to the tissue & COā§¨ from tissue to the lungs.
  3. It transport nutrients & vitamins to the tissue.
  4. It prevents intravascular coagulation.
  5. It regulates blood pressure.
  6. It regulates body temperature.
  7. It regulates water & electrolytes balance.
The blood circulation within the heart.

The right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the whole body through the superior  vena cava  inferior vena cava & coronary sinus.SVC collects blood from the upper half of the body, IVC collects blood from the lower half of the body & coronary sinus  collects the blood from the heart.
  • Then the right atrium contracts & sends the blood through the teicuspid valve into the right ventricle.

  • The right ventricle contracts and sends the blood through the pulmonary valve into the pulmonary trunk, pulmonary arteries and finally to the lungs, where the blood is oxygened. The oxygenated blood returns to the left atrium of heart through four pulmonary veins.

  • Then the left atrium contracts & sends the oxygenated blood through the bicuspid valve into the left venteicle.

  • The left venteicle contracts and sends the blood through the aortic valve into the aorta. From the aorta, the ozygenated blood supply to the whole body. The circulation is complete and thus repeat a new circulation is start.
